The Simple Rosary of Saint Dominic
The Rosary is one of the Church’s most beloved devotions, yet few know its earliest form.
In this video, we present the Simple Rosary of Saint Dominic — the original Rosary given by the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Dominic and formally praised by Pope Saint Pius V in his papal bull Consueverunt Romani Pontifices (1569).
This ancient Rosary is beautifully simple and entirely scriptural.
It consists of only two prayers:
• The Our Father, taught by Jesus Christ Himself
• The Angelic Greeting, spoken by the Archangel Gabriel:
“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women.” (Luke 1:28, Vulgate)
Pope Saint Pius V described this Rosary as a form of prayer to beseech God, accessible to all the faithful and designed to lead the soul into meditation on the mysteries of Christ’s life.
Because of its simplicity, the entire Psalter of Mary — all 150 Angelic Greetings — can be prayed in just a few minutes, even by children.
